Happy Halloween!! - Bigfoot Jack-o'-lantern 2010 Edition

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

yes, I've carved another original bigfoot jack-o-lantern...

the sasquatch in the squash 2010.

Hope you like it!

We did some others, too, with the Masters design stencils...

sure makes for some great jack-o-lanterns!

BE SAFE! ENJOY HALLOWEEN WEEKEND!

Surveying the Sierras with Bob Strain...up 6,000 feet before the season's first storm.

I went across the San Joaquin Valley to visit the Strains last Saturday and was able to take an afternoon drive to survey some of the places we had been over the last 5 years off Highway 108 in the Stanislaus National Forest.

We drove up and around the areas where the 2005 BFRO Sierras Expedition took place. There were plenty of hunters and ATV enthusiasts populating the forest roads that afternoon - dozens upon dozens of them! It was the last weekend of deer hunting season this year and despite the weather, the hunters were out in force.

Nothing dramatic to report - just a nice afternoon out in a wet, dark forest.
Enjoy the photos!

(a redwood sized pine tree in the Sierras. Sorry for the lack of a person for scale - but I'll find this tree again next year. It was HUGE!)

the REAL bigoot magic of YouTube - JOHN MIONCZYNSKI on squeeze box!!

yes, YouTube is a magical place. You can relive most anything from the past that was ever on TV or not. For bigfooters, it has documentaries you might never have seen - and it also has the dregs of home-made videos of alleged sightings.

I wanted to share with you this gem of a video - a song with a sweet melody that sticks in your head. It's been a part of the bigfoot collection CD I play in my car since May 2009 when John gave me the Togwotee Trail Radio Hour CD - a variety of local music and story-telling in the style of "Prairie Home Companion." This CD was intended for those stopped at construction flag zones along Wyoming state highway 87 & 26 over the Togwotee Pass, the gateway to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, during a 4 year construction project.

(John Mionczynski playing his squeeze box at the Yakima Bigfoot Round-Up campfire, May 2009.)

Our very own wildlife biologist and mountain sheep expert John Mionczynski is featured playing his button accordion - or squeeze box. He regaled us with campfire renditions of his repertoire at the Yakima Bigfoot Round-Up and it was something else!

Enjoy a little John Mionczynski - now and whenever you please thanks to YouTube
and the Togwotee Trail Radio Hour!!

Here he plays the jingle-jangle saloon-style piano... a little glimpse of John
at the beginning of the video with the ensemble "The Night Crawlers."
To quote Chuck Berry, "Go, Johnny, Go!"
Hope you all enjoy these brief, bigfoot-related musical interludes! :-)

Hey, it's October 20th - Patterson-Gimlin Film 43rd Anniversary

43 years ago the best photographic evidence of a sasquatch was obtained by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin on a remote stretch of Bluff Creek in Northern California.

The famous film has been the center of vigorous debate ever since.

Many who are blessed with visual acuity acclaim the unique and rare accomplishment.

Examination of the film subject in books by John Green, Jeff Meldrum, Grover Krantz, John Bindernagel and Christopher L. Murphy show it to be nothing less than the genuine article - a real, living sasquatch.

It's a day for celebrating the unique achievement - the best piece of photographic evidence of a bigfoot. It's always a day to celebrate the subject and the intelligent examination and explanation of evidence we have today presented by the aforementioned individuals.

Happy Anniversary Patterson-Gimlin Film!!

photos from Bigfoot Discovery Day IV - Great Local Turnout

Here are a bunch of photos from Bigfoot Discovery Day IV.
(left click to see a larger version of each photo...enjoy!)

BART CUTINO: Addressing some skeptical questions and illuminating thermal imaging info.

Michael Rugg: The Santa Cruz Mountains Sasquatch - stories of encounters and recent field research.

...after the event

(posing with the Patterson-Gimlin wall banner...Scott, Todd Hale, Tom and Andy. It's not a bigfoot event without the banner! )

(outside the hall with Scott McClean, local bigfoot enthusiast/researcher Chris Huntze and yours truly.)

It was well attended and a success in many ways. Without any "big" names from the bigfoot community in town this year, we saw more of the local folks interested in the subject and not so many rsearcher and enthusiast friends. And, of course, it was a good showing from the museum membership.

There is an article from the Santa Cruz Sentinel that was carried over the wire to other newspapers today as well.

Bigfoot Discovery Day IV in Santa Cruz & Felton This Saturday!

well, look what's popped up on the October calendar - the fourth installment of Bigfoot Discovery Day.

This year will focus on local bigfoot accounts and investigation results.

Michael Rugg has been studying the local bigfoot phenomenon since 2004 when he opened the doors to the Bigfoot Discovery Museum in Felton, California. There was a history in the Santa Cruz Mountains prior to that but the museum was a magnet for stories and accounts to be brought forth. Six years later and the stories are ready to be told. Research has been conducted in the area as well and this year's event will present what is known about the Santa Cruz Mountains bigfoot at this time.

Also speaking will be Bart Cutino, Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) investigator;

Robert Leiterman, California State Park Ranger & BFRO member; and

James "Bobo" Fay, Humboldt County bigfoot researcher.

What: Bigfoot Discovery Day IV
When: Saturday, October 16, 2010 6:00 p.m.
Where: Louden Nelson Community Center, 301 Center Street, Santa Cruz, CA
Admission: $10 general admission / $8 students & seniors

The Bigfoot Discovery Museum will host a barbeque lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. along with a meet & greet for event attendees.
A round-table discussion on the future of bigfoot research will also take place at the museum in the early afternoon.
