First Trip to the Woods - Mendocino Nat'l Forest

Finally! got in the little car that could and I did!
Made it 15 miles in from the nearest highway...56 miles from hwy 101 and 225 miles from home...what a spot!! Matt M. paid some local guy to plow the snow in the north-shadowed road cuts and we accessed some forest roads for the first time this year.

now, it was a quiet few nights, but a spectacular location - and I'd say very promising for future searches. Without giving away the specific location (because this was a BFRO expedition), I can tell you that the elevation was between 3,000 and 4,000 feet...mixed conifer and hardwood forest...plenty of deer sign and a nice group of folks on expedition.

We even had an excellent couple of jams at the campfire...
one of these was recorded by Stan Courtney as part of his goal to go squatchin' in 48 states this year...the podcast features an interview with Bart Cutino and Robert Leiterman (good friends of mine) and then the Yamarone Brothers perform 3 songs during the last 13 minutes - including the newest song "Yowie" by Robert Leiterman and myself...1st time I ever played it...

enjoy!Stan Courtney's 48 in '08
